Holy Comforter Episcopal School Plans for COVID-19

Holy Comforter Episcopal School (HCES) has incorporated recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Health and Human Services Licensing Department (THHS) to establish our guidelines and procedures for the mitigation of COVID-19.

  1. No one may enter the facility except operation staff, persons with legal authority to enter, including law enforcement officers, licensing staff and Department of Family and Protective Services staff. Professionals providing services to children, children enrolled at the facility and parents who have children enrolled and present at the operation. Parents are encouraged not to enter the building.
  2. All people entering the facility must be screened before entry is allowed, including staff. The screening will include taking the temperature of each person upon arrival at the operation each day and denying entry to any person who has a temperature of 100.4 or over, signs of symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as cough, shortness of breath or a sore throat, contact in the last 14 days with someone who has a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, someone who is under investigation for COVID-19, or someone who is ill with a respiratory illness.
  3. The School hopes you realize the importance of keeping your child home if they are ill. The School requests that parents contact HCES if their child will not be in attendance and share the symptoms so that we can discuss with you any additional actions that may need to occur.
  4. Substitutes will be provided for staff that are ill and they may not return until they have met the criteria to discontinue home isolation.
  5. All staff will wear masks or shields when working with the students. Any official or professional listed above will have to wear a mask to enter the building. Considering the age of the students on campus students will not be required to wear masks.
  6. Soap and water will be used to clean hands. Sanitizer will only be used when this is not available. Hands will be washed during the transition from one activity to the next.
  7. Students who are feeling ill will be moved to the school office and parents will be called immediately. The temperature of the child will be recorded along with the name of students and staff the child has been in contact with that day. The School will stay in contact with the parents to monitor the child’s condition.
  8. Parents and students will be met at their car if pulling through one of the covered driveways by a staff member. This staffer will screen the child by taking their temperature and asking the parents of symptoms or contact with a COVID -19 positive person in the last 14 days. This information will be recorded on the daily sign in sheet, which the staffer will fill out, instead of parents signing their students in and out.

Peach Street Building

Early arrivals 7AM to 7:45AM must be dropped off at the Extended Day Building on Peach Street. Parents will be asked several questions and students will be screened for temperature. Upon entering the building, they hang up their backpack, so they are not touching. They immediately wash their hands. Children with breakfast will move to a clean table for breakfast, followed by another hand washing prior to moving to centers and job shelves. At 7:45AM students with classes in the church classrooms will be walked to the Parish Hall.

Students with regular arrival 7:50-8AM who are assigned classes in the Peach Street building will be screened and follow the same procedures.

Church Classrooms

Parents dropping off students for classes in the church building should arrive between 7:50-8AM, go down the alley and enter under the cover by the Parish Hall door. Once checked in, they will sanitize their hands at the hand sanitation station, then proceed up the stairs to their classrooms. Backpacks will be separated as much as possible and lunch kits will remain with the backpacks. Students will go to the restrooms and wash hands as appropriate.

Any student arriving after 8 AM should be brought to the office where they will be screened and walked to their class.
